πŸŽƒ Why Pangolins is Skipping Halloween β€” and Still Having a Spooktacular Time

πŸŽƒ Why Pangolins is Skipping Halloween β€” and Still Having a Spooktacular Time

Each year, as October rolls in, the shelves begin to groan under the weight of plastic pumpkins, synthetic cobwebs and throw-away costumes. The world turns orange and black β€” and, sadly, a little bit grey underneath, as landfill bins fill with the glitter and polyester that only last one night.

At Pangolins, we believe in celebrating the seasons, but not at the planet’s expense. So, while we’ll happily raise a candle to the magic of autumn, you won’t find any mass-produced Halloween goods here. No plastic trick-or-treat buckets, no novelty tat destined for the bin by morning. That’s not our kind of party.

The Scary Truth About Halloween Waste

The numbers are frightening. In the UK alone, an estimated 30 million single-use costumes are sold each October β€” most made from oil-based plastics. Add to that hundreds of tonnes of pumpkins carved but never eaten, plus disposable decorations, sweet wrappers and glow sticks, and you have one of the most wasteful holidays on the calendar.

It’s the kind of haunting we’d rather avoid.

A Kinder, Cosier October

Instead, we like to mark the season with a gentler kind of mischief β€” the kind that warms the kitchen rather than fills the bin. We’ll be carving our pumpkins into twinkling lanterns, then roasting their flesh with thyme and olive oil or blending them into soups, curries and pies.

We’ll light beeswax candles, cosy up with hot chocolate, and celebrate the turning of the seasons β€” mindful, slow and beautiful.

It’s proof that you can still have fun without the frightful footprint.

Small Changes, Big Magic

If you’re inspired to join us, here are a few easy ways to keep your celebrations planet-kind:

🌿 Swap plastic decorations for natural ones β€” dried leaves, pinecones, and candlelight are every bit as atmospheric.

πŸŽƒ Use every bit of your pumpkin β€” roast the seeds, cook the flesh, compost the rest.

πŸ‘» Costume swap with friends or get creative with clothes you already own.

πŸ•―οΈ Choose reusable or recyclable materials where you can.

Our October Mood

So, while Pangolins won’t be stocking Halloween ranges, we’re absolutely embracing the spirit of the season β€” just the slower, simpler, softer kind. The sort that leaves room for laughter, candlelight and pumpkin soup simmering on the hob.

Because autumn doesn’t need plastic to be magical.
